All our students have come from small rural villages in Tanzania. Without the opportunities that secondary or further education give the children, they would almost certainly stay as subsistence farmers in their village with little or no opportunity of creating any income. Other options open to children in this position would be to go to the city of Dar es Salaam and become house boys or girls to rich families. However, this often leads to abuse of the children, leaving them to return to their villages, HIV+ and often pregnant.
However, people like yourselves who have given a child a chance to be educated, have opened up the opportunities for employment and further education. After passing Form 4 or 6 exams students will have the option to continue studying at diploma, degree or college level or to attend teacher training college. After qualifying they may be employed to teach or have another position of responsibility in the village.

If they decide to work away from home the Tanzanian sense of family is very strong, so a member who has a job will be expected to support his/her siblings through education. So, by supporting one child, many others can benefit.
