S.E.E.D.
aims to find sponsors from Britain, America and Australia to sponsor
students to attend Secondary School in rural Tanzania. Some of the
trustees have worked in villages in Iringa rural region and have
seen that most children who pass their end of school exams are unable
to attend Secondary school.
Most families recognise the importance
of education, but simply cannot raise the fees the schools demand.
In many cases the villagers all contribute to a fund to buy basic
necessities such as a mattress, school uniform and stationary, but
are unable to afford the school and boarding fees.
Although S.E.E.D. provides money
for the boarding and tuition fees, we require families to
obtain funding for the students basic necessities. This ensures
the families sense of pride is not damaged and encourages
them to further support their child's studies. It also gives
the community a stake in it's own more sustainable future.
where a child has been orphaned S.E.E.D funds these items.
By providing better future opportunities
for students, S.E.E.D. hopes to have a positive impact on the otherwise
vicious circle of poverty in rural Tanzania. Education provides
opportunities for students to secure jobs which require a skill
or specialist knowledge.
The Tanzanian sense of family is
very strong, so a member who has a job will be expected to support
his/her siblings through education. So, by supporting one child,
many others can benefit.
